Florida – Manatees

The following morning we got up bright (or dark) and early, and headed to Blue Spring State Park to look for Manatees.  The temperatures plummeted the previous night, which should drive the manatees into the spring where the water is warmer.  As we entered the park we were told that there were well over 100 manatees currently in the spring!  It was good that we got there early because there were few people and the water was relatively calm.  I’ve been to Blue Spring once before but did not get to see such a great number of manatees, let alone have them be so close to the viewing platforms.  It was a great morning!

These are so cool, Barry! I absolutely love manatees, but have never had the privilege to see them in the wild. It’s on my lifetime plan list for sure though.
