Photoshop practice and sights from Lake Los Carneros

Last week, while walking around Lake Los Carneros, I came across a stunning scene.  A Great Egret, highlighted by the setting sun, was perched in a tall tree with the moon rising just above.  Isolating the egret from the surrounding branches required a telephoto lens, which has very little depth of field.  Because of this, there was no way to get both the bird and moon in focus at once.  The solution was to take an in-focus shot of each and blend them together in Photoshop.  Note: I did not change the position of the moon while processing this image.

So scrupulous 🙂 I’ve seen a great blue heron in a cypress tree at the lagoon before – it is an amazing site. I think they like perching high sometimes to scope out prey. Very nice job blending the moon and egret together!
